Referral Reward Program

So you’ve seen an amazing teaching job opportunity with KIPP NJ and KIPP Miami that’s not the right fit for you, but would be perfect for your friend. We would love to hear about them – and send you some money as a thank you.

Our Referral Reward program is open to everyone: current KIPP NJ and KIPP Miami employees, friends, family, AND people outside of the organization.

We are currently undergoing our annual revision of our referral reward amounts and positions. Here are the present referral rewards we offer:

Referral Reward Levels – Fall 2023

  • Lead Teacher – $1,000
  • Social Worker, Speech Language Pathologist – $1,000
  • All other roles (Teacher in Residence, Paraprofessional) –  $500

Referral Guidelines

General Eligibility and Participation

The Referral Reward program (“Referral Program”) offers the opportunity to both employees and individuals outside of the organization to receive a one-time payment for the referral of a candidate who is successfully hired by KIPP.

What makes a quality teacher referral?

  • In general, we are looking for people who are hungry (for kid-focused results and personal/professional development), humble, and hard-working.
  • All Lead Teacher candidates must have (1) a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, (2) a minimum undergraduate GPA = 3.0, and (3) formal teaching experience.
  • All Teacher in Residence candidates must have (1) a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, (2) a minimum undergraduate GPA = 3.0, and (3) some experience with children. Formal teaching experience not necessary.

Referral payments are only awarded for the hiring of full-time instructional, non-instructional, and school leader positions. Referral amounts vary by title and position. Current referral amounts are as follows:

  • Lead Teacher – $1,000
  • Social Worker, Speech Language Pathologist – $1,000
  • All other roles (Teacher in Residence, Paraprofessional) –  $500

External Referral Guidelines

  • To participate in the External Referral Program:
    • You must be an individual person (not a business entity) and a legal resident of the United States who is at least 18 years of age.
    • You cannot be associated with or a consultant of a staffing/recruiting agency.
    • You cannot refer yourself.
  • Your referral candidate:
    • Cannot be a current or past employee of KIPP Miami, TEAM Academy Charter Schools, KCNA, KIPP NJ, or KIPP Team and Family (collectively “KIPP”).
    • Cannot be a current or past college or university student who has conducted their observation hours or student teaching through any of the previous entities.
    • The External Referrer must notify his/her referral candidate that KIPP recruiters may be in touch to discuss opportunities in our network.
    • Will remain active for two calendar years from the date of submission, after which time a referrer must submit their referral again
  • If you meet the eligibility requirements and qualify for a referral award, a one-time external reference payment in the amount identified above based upon the specific role for which the referred candidate was hired, provided that such hired candidate:
    • Acknowledges that he or she was referred by you via the application.
    • Completes 135 days of continuous active employment with KIPP Miami, TEAM Academy Charter Schools, KCNA, KIPP NJ, or KIPP Team and Family.

Current Employee Guidelines

  • To participate in the Employee Referral Program:
    • All current employees are eligible to participate in the referral bonus award program except for the following individuals:
      • Chief level staff, Regional Executive Directors, Heads of Schools, School Leaders and Managing Directors of Operations.
      • Directors in cases wherein they are the hiring manager;
      • KIPP NJ and KIPP Miami Employees wherein they are the hiring manager;
      • KIPP Forward Team Members are not eligible for the referral of a KIPP alumni.
      • KIPP Foundation Leadership and KIPP Foundation National Talent Team; and
      • KIPP NJ and KIPP Miami Recruitment Team Members.
    • Your referral candidate:
      • Cannot be a current or past employee of TEAM Academy Charter Schools, KCNA, KIPP Miami, KIPP NJ or KIPP Team and Family (collectively “KIPP”).
      • Cannot be your direct report at the point of hire.
      • Must not be found in our current prospect database or have been contacted in the past by a member of our Talent Recruitment Team.
      • Will remain active for two calendar years from the date of submission, after which time a referrer must submit their referral again
    • You must notify your referral candidate that KIPP recruiters may be in touch to discuss opportunities in our network.
    • If you meet the eligibility requirements and qualify for a referral award, KIPP Miami shall pay you a one-time referral payment in the amount identified above based upon the specific role for which the referred candidate was hired, provided that such hired candidate:
      • Acknowledges that he or she was referred by you via the application.
      • Completes 135 days of continuous active employment with KIPP Miami, TEAM Academy Charter Schools, KCNA, KIPP NJ, or KIPP Team and Family.
    • To be eligible for a referral bonus, you must submit the referral via the form above; otherwise, you will not be eligible for a referral bonus
